Alena Kotzmannová has made her presence felt on the Czech contemporary scene since the late 1990s. From the beginning, she has focused on classic black-and-white analogue photography, which she combines within her conceptual approach with other media. The key to interpreting her newly acquired series An Attempt at Regaining Reality VII (Tevatron) can be seen in the creative process of the artist, which begins with a starting initiation motif which appeals to her in some way. Kotzmannová subsequently combines the motif which had inspired her with newly made photographs and those from her private archive, as if she had in mind a preconceived image of a chain, which she gradually complements with the missing links. The Tevatron series ranks alongside another remarkable series of photographs, Sphere (1998–2015), which Prague City Gallery bought from the artist last year.
