Peter Bartoš belongs to the first generation of Slovak conceptual artists (together with Stano Filko and Július Koller) which began to form in Bratislava in the early 1960s and whose representatives now rank among the most notable neo-avant-garde artists in Central and Eastern Europe. Bartoš conceives of his art as a huge utopian vision of the ecology and mythology of the landscape of Slovak cities and nature. The Extramural Settlement under Bratislava Castle belongs to his current work, dealing with the prehistory of the extramural settlement under Bratislava Castle, whose specific character is rapidly disappearing due to the massive construction boom in the Old Town, which is motivated by the strong development of the real estate market.
