Two major works entitled Homage to Malevich of 1965 are a compelling example of Kubíček’s definition of basic elementary geometric forms. After his experimental early stage, Kubíček concentrated on their variations based on a thoughtful confrontation of forms and color relationships. Homage to Malevich together with Kubíček’s two paintings in the collections of Prague City Gallery – Concrete Combination I and The Variable in Four Phases (both of 1967) – is a representative ensemble presenting the concept of formal contexts and combinatorial variants of basic elements, which Kubíček, as a key representative of Concrete Art, later develops in painting series of paintings.
