mixed media, 550 x 650 cm

Eva Koťátková’s Psychological Theater features many elements characteristic of the work by this artist. The physical form of an installation of objects with a performative potential is based on the artistic exploration of a particular situation of man in the social system and his personal environment. As in other works by this artist, there are also implicit references to the manipulative nature of normative structures, to cultural and social topics of mental, psychological and physical constraints imposed on man by institutional education and teaching, and to topics of institutional approaches to the treatment of psychopathological conditions. The installation Psychological Theater is one part of a long-term project with a number of partial outputs, but it works even without the context of the other parts of the series, as well as in direct relation to Koťátková’s preceding and subsequent projects. Prague City Gallery also has in its collections a comprehensive documentation of her exhibition and a series of performances and video performances entitled The Two-Headed Biographer and the Museum of  that took place at Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital in 2015, as well as drawings and collages entitled Art Lessons and Posters from 2007.
