Veronika Bromová is one of the prominent representatives of the generation of artists who emerged in the mid-1990s with a vengeance. Her works in Prague City Gallery’s collections, such as her monumental series , form the core of the photographic collection. The newly acquired series Parts of Me, Parts of NYC appropriately complements the current collection by a lesser-known more “civilian” position of Veronika Bromová’s art. Four photographic diptychs of this series were created during the artist’s stay in New York in 1998. They are based on the juxtaposition of portrait and figurative images of the artist and city motifs, such as traveling by subway that moves as fast as it turns into a raster of abstract images (Me – Train) or skyline silhouettes of skyscrapers transformed into golden, trembling delusions (Me – Gold). They are a metaphor for the situation of contemporary man who, in confronting the chaos of civilization labyrinths, makes his own place and identity clearer.
